‘Within and Without’, dance performance by Miti Desai (Mumbai, India)
The New Acropolis central branch in Mumbai hosted Miti Desai, a Mohiniyattam dancer in a performance titled Within & Without.
Miti gracefully expressed how the visible and the invisible fuse into each other seamlessly. She emphasized that the value of a classical form of dance lies in allowing the practitioner to transcend the form. The Mohiniyattam style from Kerala is characterized by erect posture and gentle swaying circular movements, every gesture being the completion of an energetic cycle.
Through this presentation Miti also emphasized the importance of keeping the culture and essence of classical dances, including Mohiniyattam, intact.
