Lecture on “The Golden Ratio” (Madrid-Ciudad Lineal, Spain)
Is it possible that the inner structure of matter has a mathematical or geometrical basis? The discovery of the number phi (named after the Greek sculptor Phidias) and the Fibonacci sequence tell us of a divine proportion that is reflected in nature. It has been known since the time of Pythagoras and Plato, who already spoke of the geometric solids… The lecturer gave us some surprising examples: the dance of the planets in the cosmos – whose orbits form veritable mandalas – the growth of flowers, the eyes of insects, the spiral shapes of snails, and the great architectural and sculptural monuments of antiquity. All of them move us with their beauty, and behind all of them there is always this same golden ratio.
