Talk-Symposium: Maria Montessori, the Educational Revolution (Vigo, Spain)
Celebration of International Women’s Day at New Acropolis Vigo
Maria Montessori was a physician, educator, psychiatrist and philosopher, as well as a humanist and feminist activist.
She was the first Italian woman to practise as a doctor. A staunch defender of women’s rights and of the weakest sectors of the population, she dedicated herself to the education of children, experimenting with an innovative educational method based on the stimulation of creative abilities.
The Montessori method allows the child to relate independently to the world around him or her, based on exploration, the capacity for self-correction and active experience.
Respecting childhood and striving to understand it is the best way to enrich oneself, to rediscover the world through the eyes of innocence and to find valid ways to look at life with wonder.
