Earthen Architecture. From the protohistory of the southwest of the Iberian Peninsula (Seville, Spain)
As part of the events dedicated to International Earth Day, we had the honour of hosting a guest speaker, Arturo Jiménez Viera, a dear friend of our school in Seville. A passionate architect specialising in “earthen architecture”, he gave an interesting presentation about the use of earth and related materials in the architecture of the southwest peninsular area from protohistoric times to the present day. He also argued the case for earthen architecture today as a sustainable option with practically zero environmental impact, which was historically widely used in our area, but has now fallen out of use.
