The practice of concentration: the way of the philosopher (Mumbai, India)
The New Acropolis Center in Mumbai hosted a public talk on the subject ‘Cultivating Concentration’, presented by the National Director of New Acropolis India, Yaron Barzilay. The lecture addressed the importance of concentration as a basic faculty to assimilate knowledge, and challenges for concentration, especially in light of modern era sensory overload, with all types of electronic communication media – mobile phones, computers, tablets etc.
The lecture addressed different themes to better understand concentration. The etymology of the term concentration, examples of wise people who spoke of concentration as well as ancient cultures that referred to the importance of concentration, were explored.
The lecture ended with an emphasis on the need for concentration and some practical advice on how we can cultivate concentration in our lives.
