Being a volunteer: Why? (Montreal, Canada)
Lecture presented by New Acropolis on the meaning and purpose of volunteering in the 21st century. The world today is changing rapidly and we face many economic, social or environmental collective challenges. Everyone agrees that our mentalities must adapt to these new challenges to be less passive and become actors of change. Many citizens denounce the inaction of governments and advocate for quick accountability to issues that affect us directly instead of waiting for states to take action.
Work and effort are necessary in the way of self-realization and service to the community so that human beings will cease wanting ephemeral benefits and temporal rewards such as money or power to the detriment of other realms and nature. Becoming committed citizens for a better world is the challenge that New Acropolis has been taking for 60 years in more than 60 countries around the world.
