Presentation: Nikos Kavvadias (Cyprus)
The poet Nikos Kavvadias, in the collective imagery, has been identified with the world of Sea. In his poems he praises the charm of the sea and of travelling with an unprecedented manner and by using flawlessly the idiomatic maritime language. The sea, for this poet, the ideal lover “of the remote voyages and of the blue seas”, is a world of magic. He draws from her strength and love for the human.
This presentation was an effort to taste some of the saltiness of his verses and to comprehend the depth of the meanings posed in his poems set to music. Nikos Kavvadias has been a voyager to the human soul and thus “just being in contact with his world of human geography, makes us better persons”.
