Child for Good Program expands services to families (Brazil)
New Acropolis’ Child for Good Program is preparing to celebrate its 15th anniversary this year by expanding its activities to the families of about 200 socially vulnerable children and youth living in the communities of Varjão, Itapõa and Paranoá in the Federal Capital, Brasilia.
The children and young people assisted by the Program participate from Monday to Saturday in dance, music, reading, sports, school support, and other workshops. They also receive medical and dental care in a partnership between New Acropolis and the Seraphis Institute. The maintenance of all the activities is possible with the support in the form of sponsorships, bazaars, donations, and projects.
Community Listening
In the first half of 2022, with the resumption of face-to-face activities, the New Acropolis Program team reactivated the monthly meetings with participants’ parents and guardians. It also reactivated the partnership with the Flor da Manhã Clinic, which is applying the Community Listening with the families of the Program and the assisted communities.
“Our purpose with the Program is to contribute to the human, solidarity, and citizenship formation of children and young people. For this, it is essential that family ties are strengthened. The Community Listening is an excellent tool for families to share their life experiences and knowledge, making room for solidarity and responsibility in the search for overcoming and solving their challenges”, explained Luiza Koshino, New Acropolis’ Social Assistance secretary.
Strong Families
New Acropolis’ partnership with the Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of the Federal District seeks to strengthen family ties and prevent drug use. To this end, it is applying the Strong Families Program, from the National Secretariat for the Family, in weekly meetings with guardians and teenagers from 10 to 14 years old in the administrative regions served by Child for Good program.
“Adolescents are a new world. By participating in Strong Families, I feel that we are all growing and learning from each other. Everyone can feel the results, it makes a difference in the little things,” commented Miriam Oliveira, mother of 10 year old Luiza.
“With dialogue and agreements, we solved issues that caused disharmony at home. This project has strengthened loyalty among us,” praised Maria Souza, mother of Geovanna Vitória, 11 years old.
