Reading Club: Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Guatemala)

Cultural Activities

This year the Reading Club resumed its activities, which began with Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy. It went on to El Ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes and reached Shakespeare. The plays to be read are Macbeth, Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. The objective is to read the classic exponents of the Italian, Spanish and English languages and to experience and understand through reading why they are classics and what philosophical elements we can find within their works.

The event flow is similar to pre-pandemic sessions. The first meeting of the Club is to learn about the author, their context, their works, characteristics of their works, why they are renowned authors, etc.
Then, every month there is a meeting to share thoughts on the work read, answer questions and learn more, after which participants can enjoy a dinner together.

The sessions are conducted in both face-to-face and virtual modalities.
