Exhibition “The Ancient Egypt, civilization in the Nile Valley, is a flower in the desert” (Russia)
The Central Pushkin Library together with the cultural center “New Acropolis” has opened the exhibition called ”The Ancient Egypt, civilization in the Nile Valley, is a flower in the desert”.
The exhibition was created as a part of the ”Touching Beauty” project and was aimed at visitors with visual impairments. The blind and visually impaired can tactilely get acquainted with replicas of ancient Egyptian art from various museums around the world. Each exhibit is provided with a sign which has the Braille description.
The exhibition was created with the help of volunteers from the ”New Acropolis” of different cities. It is accompanied by the excursion about the culture and history of Ancient Egypt. Admission is free for the blind, visually impaired and sighted.
Soloists of the Chelyabinsk Philharmonic Natalya Gushchina (piano) and Dmitry Chernov (classical guitar) performed at the opening ceremony, and Olga Fyodorovna Solodovnikova (Head of the Department of the Central Pushkin Library), Leonid Mebel (Director of the Cultural Center ”New Acropolis” in Chelyabinsk), Savitskaya Tatyana Pavlovna (chairman of the board of the Chelyabinsk regional organization of the All-Russian Society of the Blind) and Shalintseva Maria Alexandrovna (chairman of the Chelyabinsk local organization of the All-Russian Society of the Blind).
This project is the implementation of the principle of volunteering, which underlines one of the main ideas of the cultural center ”New Acropolis”. We thank the Central Pushkin Library for the provided placement and support in this project. We would also like to thank the representatives of the Chelyabinsk All-Russian Society of the Blind for their partnership and provided plates, which contain the full description of the replicas.
