Coinciding with International Women’s Day on 8^th March, the book La historia con nombre de mujer (History with a Woman’s Name), written by several authors, was presented at the New Acropolis centre in Alicante.

This book, consisting of contributions from ten specialists in different areas of history, was conceived as a collective project involving proofreaders, typesetters and editors. With a foreword by the journalist, philosopher and writer María Dolores Fernández-Fígares, it consists of nine chapters on women’s participation in different spheres and time periods, such as philosophy, law, medicine, universities, literature, politics, war, Egypt, the Arab world, etc.

The chapters and their respective authors are listed below: La mujer y la enseñanza de la filosofía, el derecho y la medicina en la baja Edad Media, by Luis Gonzaga Roger Castillo; La Europa medieval y sus desconocidas universitarias, by Carmen de Arriba Muñoz; Evocando a la mujer sabia: filósofas pitagóricas y platónicas, by Juan Antonio Negrete Alcudia; Mavia: la mujer que derrotó al imperio romano, by José Soto; Desde el fondo de la historia: ellas escribieron, by Lilia García Chiavassa; Identidad de la mujer árabe: entre la modernidad y el fanatismo, by María Asunción Cenizo González; El voto femenino en España: Clara Campoamor y Victoria Kent, by Luis Martínez de Velasco; El Lyceum Club Femenino de Madrid, by María de los Ángeles Fernández, El mayor enigma de Egipto: las egipcias, by Begoña Casas and Juana Mari Iglesias.

The presentation was attended by five of the authors, Carmen de Arriba Muñoz, María Asunción Cenizo González, José Soto, Juan Antonio Negrete and Lilia García Chiavassa, accompanied by one of the coordinators of the project, Mar Muñoz, who, after giving an outline of the book, introduced the authors, who explained their reasons for choosing the respective themes and analysed their most striking aspects.
