World Philosophy Day 2023: Philosophy in Action (London, UK)
To celebrate World Philosophy Day this year, New Acropolis London held an event entitled ‘Philosophy in Action’. The event consisted of two talks covering different aspects of the theme: firstly, the importance of a philosophical and non-polarised approach when engaging with the issues of our time. After a break for refreshments and philosophical conversation, the second talk explored the inner dimension of philosophy in action, by looking at the ‘spiritual exercises’ which, thanks to the research of French historian of classical philosophy, Pierre Hadot, can be identified through the works of philosophers such as Marcus Aurelius, Epicurus, Plato and Plotinus.
The event was an opportunity for people from all walks of life to come together to reflect on the value of philosophy today and to engage in philosophical conversation with the speakers and their fellow participants.
