World Philosophy Day : Night of Philosophy 2023 (Lausanne, Switzerland)

World Philosophy Day

The alliance of Art and Philosophy

We were delighted to welcome an enthusiastic audience on World Philosophy Day, in search of “art and philosophy”, the theme of this fifth edition of the festival.
The aim of the Night of Philosophy was to promote the humanisation of the human being through art and philosophy. In ancient schools of philosophy, the importance of which was advocated by the french philosopher Pierre Hadot, sport, art in all its forms and philosophy were the main subjects of education. This education enabled human beings to develop and know themselves, fostering the development of the individual and of civilisation.

Philosophy, both in terms of philosophical reflection and the development of free thought and practical, everyday philosophical experience, is an “attitude to life” that enables everyone to improve themselves. As for art, it has always accompanied human societies. As a means of authentic human expression, it can be both a representation of beauty and a mirror of the world. By bringing art to the fore, we wanted to restore it to its fundamental and essential place as a means of sublimation and therefore of elevation for mankind, helping to create harmony and beauty within societies.
Through 8 events: workshops, lectures, theatre and dance performances on a variety of subjects, the Night of Philosophy which gathered around 220 participants, thanks to its various event-organising partners, was able to offer the public some important philosophical and artistic tools for everyday life, for the “Common Good”.
