Multicultural Festival (Carregado, Portugal)
New Acropolis in partnership with Alenquer City Council, organised the Multiculturality Festival on 10 June 2024, coinciding with Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities Day.
The festival featured a variety of activities to promote community inclusion. It began with the conference ‘Multiculturality and the importance of fraternity to make a better society’, which highlighted the importance of finding common ethical principles that transcend local customs, as a way to strengthen what unites us and not what separates us.
It continued with a demonstration of various martial arts, Nei Kung, Judo and Capoeira. The Nei Kung instructor emphasised the importance of martial arts as a path to self-knowledge.
The students of the Carregado School group performed a dance demonstration followed by a poetry recital by the Florbela Espanca group of Nova Acrópole, who recited poems by authors from the various communities present in the Carregado itself.
New Acropolis then held a second lecture entitled ‘The importance of music for inclusion’, which highlighted the importance of music in promoting a better society, particularly highlighting historical events in which artists used music to raise awareness of the funds and support of peoples and nations, as well as its role as an expression of multiculturalism, unifying rhythms, sounds and cultures.
The festival continued with a performance by the music group EBI from Carregado and the singing group ECDB, where the school’s pupils demonstrated their musical skills. The festival ended with a gastronomic moment composed of dishes from different countries.
