Philosophy Walk (Yokohama, Japan)
We held a philosophy walk through the Otsuka Toshikatsudo Ruins Park near Yokohama’s Center-Kita Station.
This is a valuable site where remains of a burial mound as well as residences remain, and the pit dwelling, stilt warehouse, and burial mound have been recreated based on the remains of pillars and ditches. The members explained that there was a group of dwellings on a hill a little away from the nearby river, that there were dry moats around the dwellings, and that during the Yayoi period, people moved from place to place about every 50 years. While stepping on the ground where the ripe acorns had fallen, the participants and others reflected on what life was like back then.
After admiring the old folk house that has been relocated to the park, the participants sat down and shared the famous quote they had chosen today. About “living with the intention of dying”, “living in adversity”, “fighting against yourself”, “giving yourself a good destiny”, “true kindness” and, “the truth of winning”.
