Volunteering at a Cat Shelter (Chicago, USA)
Volunteers from New Acropolis helped at a cat shelter named “Touched by an Animal” in Chicago. While spending quality time with the friendly furry friends, and helping them to get used to a human touch before adoption, the volunteers also used their best resources and philosophical skills to improve different aspects of the shelter – from cleaning litter boxes, to fixing rails and cages and improving the surrounding of the home of over 50 cats and kittens.
At the end of the activity the volunteers had a short discussion about the philosophical practice of Karma Yoga – doing the right action without expecting a personal gain (such as cleaning A LOT of very smelly litter boxes), and about maintaining your sense of attention and focus while constantly distracted by very cute kitties…
