Working in Sophie’s garden for Earth Day (Klagenfurt, Austria)

Mother Earth Day

A group of students spent the morning helping to set up a permaculture area in the philosophical garden next to the headquarters of Neue Akropolis Klagenfurt. Despite the pouring rain, they were enthusiastic and eager to prepare the area and plant berry bushes and vegetables. Their teacher encouraged them to work well together and congratulated them for their resilience and perseverance in the bad weather. Afterwards, they enjoyed a good snack in the cafeteria in the House of Philosophy.

They took the Earth Day motto ‘Through diversity to unity’ with them and will continue to explore it with the teacher.

It was particularly touching to see the young people’s joy at putting their hands in the soil, familiarising themselves with gardening tools, getting in touch with nature and helping to create a piece of kitchen garden.

At the opening of Sophie’s Garden the next day, many interested visitors were amazed at the young people’s commitment.
