Universitas General Studies offers a new online course:

Contemporary Traces of Sacred Architecture

It is often possible to study and visit examples of ancient Sacred Architecture, longing for its magic, its symbolic charge, its spatial richness, thinking that nowadays there are no means to achieve such magnificent art.

In this course we will approach a transcendent line of inspiration from the 19th and 20th centuries.

We will look at a common thread that runs from the guilds of craftsmen that Viollet Le Duc used to restore an interesting number of medieval buildings, through the ideas of Utopian Socialism, the Arts & Craft, the flourishing development of Art Nouveau, the leading role of Gaudí, the development of the Bauhaus, to the prolific work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Who is the course for?

People interested in architecture and art: no previous training is necessary. This course will give you a specific insight into the practice of Sacred Modern Architecture.

Students and postgraduates:
we will provide you with alternative elements for academic discussion on a highly symbolic aspect of architecture.

Professionals and freelancers: we will broaden your vision of the last centuries and how it is possible to conceive history from a humanist perspective, different from official history.

About the teacher

Hugo Ferreira is an architect graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Universidad Mayor de la República Oriental del Uruguay. He teaches Plastic Arts at the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay. Painter and sculptor. He directs the Espacio Cultural Da Vinci in Uruguay. Active collaborator of the International Institute of Architecture and Plastic Arts Fidias.
