Literary banquet dedicated to Tomás Carrasquilla (Rionegro, Colombia)
Some members of the New Acropolis School of Philosophy, Rionegro branch, visited the Tomás Carrasquilla House Museum in Santo Domingo. More than a tourist trip, it was an encounter with the memory of a writer who knew how to narrate the soul of Antioquia with language as simple as it was profound. Seeing his books, manuscripts, family portraits and the famous Third Floor Library was like walking in the footsteps of someone who understood that culture is both a root and a horizon.
This experience was the perfect prelude to our Literary Banquet, held at our headquarters a few days after the visit. There, through words and dialogue, we immersed ourselves in some of his most representative works, such as La Marquesa de Yolombó and A la diestra de Dios Padre. Through shared readings and reflections, we discovered a Carrasquilla who did not write from a distance, but from a place of closeness to his land and his people. His characters, full of humanity and mischief, made us laugh, think and recognise ourselves in traditions that, although ancient, continue to beat in our cultural identity.
Carrasquilla’s legacy does not remain on the shelves of a library or on the walls of a museum; it lives on in the collective memory of those who read, study and keep it alive. And in times of rapid globalisation, rescuing our roots is not a gesture of nostalgia, but an affirmation of who we are and what we want to project to the world.
