Beyond the brain
A simple and clear vision of how the nervous system works, the latest advances, and the limits that are being reached. We will develop aspects of the psyche (consciousness, memory and executive functions among others), and the unexplainable in the light of current knowledge such as sleep, near-death experiences, and many other functions.
What will you learn in the course?
1. A summary of the history of neuroscience and its relationship to psychology.
2. About the nervous system and how it works.
3. The brain. Anatomy, pathways, functions. A practical overview that is easy and quick to understand.
4. Paradigmatic functions of the brain such as: Language, intuition, reminiscence, dreaming and near-death experiences.
5. Consciousness, psyche and soul. Parapsychological phenomena. Knowledge of the integral man. Man and the mobile phone or the similarity between the telephone and the brain as interfaces.
Dr. Gustavo Porras
Neurosurgeon, graduated from the University of Buenos Aires (1977). Resident and Chief Resident in the speciality of Neurosurgery at the Ricardo Finochietto Hospital. Full time Neurosurgeon at the Regional University Hospital Centre of Amiens, France. Neurosurgeon at the Ignacio Pirovano Hospital since 1990. Author of the books: ‘Why we get sick’ and ‘Neurosciences and spirituality’. National Director of the ‘Centro Seraphis-Nueva Medicina’ since 1999 in Argentina. Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Buenos Aires.
