The Night of the Golden Hummingbird: A Symbolic Journey Through the Myths of Latin America (Colombia)

Cultural Activities

The Night of the Golden Hummingbird was an event organised by New Acropolis Medellín (its two centres) in collaboration with the Kagubba research group, with the aim of bringing us closer to the richness of Latin America’s ancestral myths. Through stories, reflections and symbolic activities, attendees embarked on an imaginary journey through three regions of the continent, discovering the philosophical and spiritual value that inhabits their original stories.

The journey began with the Guaraní myth from Brazil, continued with a story from the Mexica culture in Central America, and culminated with the story of the golden hummingbird from the Inca tradition. Each of these myths offered a window into profound teachings: the inner battle, the power of small acts, and the sacred bond we can recover with nature and the transcendent.

In addition to the storytelling, the evening was accompanied by fun and creative activities, such as making an origami hummingbird, a symbol of lightness, transformation and spiritual connection. Guiding questions helped participants find meaning in the stories and connect them to their daily lives.

It was a beautiful and meaningful evening, which allowed us to remember the power of symbols and bring us closer to the mythological roots that inhabit our territory. The activity brought together the two branches of New Acropolis Medellín, strengthening ties and sowing seeds of reflection on identity, the sacred and the meaning of living with awareness.
