Seeking unity through cultural diversity in an archaeological exhibition (Castellón, Spain)

Artistic Activities

This year, the New Acropolis School of Philosophy has proposed the internal motto ‘Towards Unity through Diversity’, which follows its first founding principle: to find the link between the plurality of human experience, that which unites us as humans, beyond the possible differences that we may have on the surface. But, of course… how can we find the connection between things we do not know? At New Acropolis Castelló, on the occasion of the International Day of Art proposed by the organisation, we wanted to refer to this motto by showing how there are more elements of connection between different cultures than meet the eye at first glance. Through an exhibition of reproductions of archaeological pieces, works from different cultures representing various aspects of life and history are on display. As you walk through the exhibition, it is fascinating to see how these different cultures, despite their distance in space and sometimes in time, represented similar motifs, each in its own style and manner, but with the same underlying spirit.

Thus, we can find mosaics depicting different animals, or we can see how the Chinese and Greeks made statues in honour of music, dance and celebration. We also find Aztec, Egyptian and Persian figures representing gods of different elements (rain, fire, etc.), and we see statues from around the world immortalising important figures, both real and mythological.
