World Philosophy Day (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
In November, we celebrated World Philosophy Day with a two-day program of activities under the motto ‘Unity through Diversity’.
On the Day itself, a lecture was held, “Plato – How to Become a Philosopher” and a philosophical theatre with closed eyes, “Allegory of the Cave”.
In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato showed us that the cave in which people are trapped is not a physical place. It is a mental one:
– The cave of the social bubble – where we consume only what reinforces our beliefs.
– The cave of fear – where we avoid questioning so that we do not have to change.
– The cave of the ego – where we think we already know everything.
Philosophy is about getting out of all caves, the common denominator of which is ignorance. But the first step is to realize that we are inside them.
A completely new experience was provided by the philosophical theater with closed eyes! You put on a blindfold. Only the voices of the actors, sounds, music and … silence touch. In the darkness, hearing sharpens and a different vision opens. You enter a world where even the smallest movements of the soul are noticeable, and imagination brings inner images and feelings to life.
The second event was an Open Doors Day with several short content in which visitors participated in the philosophical games Fire in the Palm of Your Hand, Wheel of Virtues and Your Heroic Challenge, as well as in the workshops Three Benefits of Friendship and Philosophical Exercises.
At this year’s celebration in the New Acropolis, all attendees had the opportunity to experience practical, accessible and transformative philosophy.
