Epicurean hedonism (Bulgaria)

World Philosophy Day

In connection with the World Philosophy Day, in the New Acropolis in Sofia, we held a new practical seminar to get to know each other and to practice a little bit the philosophical hedonism developed by Epicurus – one of the most misunderstood and mysterious personalities in the history of philosophy. His training included several useful skills:

• the ability to distinguish and take advantage of different types of pleasures: physical, mental, spiritual;
• the ability to master pleasures instead of becoming their slaves;
• how philosophical hedonism frees from fear: of God, of poverty and of death;

Part of the seminar were also some practical exercises for distinguishing familiar bodily and mental states related to pleasures and their control.
