Cultural visit to Madrid (Bilbao, Spain)

Educational Activities

Friends of the New Acropolis Bilbao School of Philosophy visited the National Archaeological Museum (MAN) on a cultural trip to the city of Madrid.

The collection is mostly made up of objects found in the Iberian Peninsula where La Dama de Elche shines. But, in addition, the students were able to enjoy the valuable works from:

Egypt: where you can see, among other objects, sarcophagi, mummies or amulets, highlighting the Stele of the Royal Treasurer Nebsumenu.
Greece: its ceramic vessels and goldsmith’s jewellery are worthy of attention.
Rome: the sculptures of the most illustrious dynasties of the Roman Empire such as the Julio-Claudians, the Flavians or the statue of Livia Drusilla are exhibited. Not forgetting its typical mosaics with a wide variety of themes.

Knowing the legacy of ancient peoples is useful to analyse and understand the current reality. This allows us to broaden our view of history and to find links between human beings of all times.
