Talk: ‘Wake up from your slumber: Connect philosophy and ethical dilemmas with cinema and anime’ (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)
New Acropolis Dominican Republic offered a lecture entitled ‘Wake Up from the Dream: Philosophy and Ethical Dilemmas in The Matrix, Avatar and Death Note’, given by philosopher and instructor Juan Guerra at its headquarters in Santo Domingo.
Before an enthusiastic audience of young people and adults interested in deep thinking and contemporary culture, Guerra explored how these three works—two films and one Japanese anime—present ethical conflicts and questions about reality, freedom and identity, central themes in the philosophical tradition.
The talk offered a critical and reflective look at concepts such as good and evil, power, free will and consciousness, through key scenes from The Matrix, Avatar and Death Note. ‘These stories are not just entertainment, they are mirrors that invite us to wake up from the dream of automatic living and courageously take responsibility for our decisions,’ said the speaker.
The activity concluded with a lively question and answer session, where attendees shared their impressions and personal experiences related to the topics discussed.
