The Return of Light – A Celebration of the Winter Solstice (Slovenia)
An event dedicated to the winter solstice took place in Maribor—an astronomical turning point after which, following the longest night of the year, the days begin to gradually lengthen.
On this occasion, participants from Maribor and Ljubljana gathered for a joint celebration dedicated to the symbolism of the solstice. The event was conceived as a shared moment of reflection and renewal, inspired by the idea of light emerging from darkness.
The evening unfolded in several parts. In a calm, festive atmosphere, the participants first gathered and then, in pairs, set out on an organized contemplative walk, which created a transition into the central part of the evening.
After nightfall, the central part of the program followed: a performance combining dance, recitation, and singing, conceived as a symbolic call for the return of the Sun. This was followed by a projection of selected images with thoughts and wishes as well as sharing handmade gifts. The more formal part concluded with a collective toast.
The gathering ended in a joyful and lively spirit, with music, singing, and dancing, which brought the evening to a close in an atmosphere of warmth and connection.
