Traveling Beyond Explorations: Exploring the Heritage of Ajanta and Ellora (Mumbai-Pune, India North)

Cultural Activities

A like minded group of members and friends of New Acropolis India (North) from Mumbai and Pune participated in a 4 day tour to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ajanta and Ellora near Aurangabad, a historic city in India.

Accompanied by a philosophy instructor from New Acropolis and local guides, the group explored the region’s ancient rock-cut temples, historic murals, and fortresses, discovering how ancient architecture and art express deeper insights into human life and the search for meaning. Highlights were the magnificent Kailasa temple in Ellora complex, and the intricate and beautiful paintings of the Ajanta caves. These sites, some of which are as old as 2000 years, are also evidence of a confluence of the Buddhist, Jain and Hindu religions of India, a good example of coexistence for our times today.

Organized under the banner of Traveling Beyond Explorations by New Acropolis India (North), the journey offered active travel for the aspiring philosopher. By combining historical exploration with practical philosophy, the experience allowed participants to reflect on the timeless wisdom, symbolism, and artistic expressions preserved within these ancient monuments. The travel together also facilitated a collective experience of fraternity and good sentiment.
