Assú City Council Honored New Acropolis with Motion of Applause (Brazil)
The Assú City Council honored New Acropolis with a Motion of Applause (Brazil) in a solemn session. The proposal for the tribute was made by councilor Delkiza Cavalcante. She highlighted the importance of recognizing and encouraging institutions that contribute significantly to the city’s development.
Delkiza Cavalcante highlighted that the Motion of Applause is an instrument of recognition and encouragement for institutions that play crucial roles in the community. New Acropolis, based in Assú for just over a year, has stood out for its work in promoting philosophy, culture and voluntary service.
Representing the New Acropolis of Assú, Fernando de Sá Leitão, volunteer teacher, thanked the City Council for the honorable tribute. In his speech, Fernando emphasized that the honor not only recognizes the dedicated work of the institution. Also, it celebrates the values that have guided it since its foundation in 1957, in Argentina, by the humanist Jorge Angel Livraga.
“The New Acropolis is a school of philosophy in the classical way, committed to the search for truth, love of knowledge, cultivation of virtue and service to humanity,” said Fernando. He highlighted that, in an increasingly polarized world, the organization serves as a bridge between different traditions and perspectives, promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.
In addition to philosophical and cultural activities, New Acropolis has promoted a series of volunteering and civic engagement projects. The philosophy school mobilizes its members to contribute to the well being of the local community. Additionally, Fernando highlighted that the maintenance of the institution takes place through the contributions of its members, guaranteeing the independence of political or religious interests.
Since 2018, New Acropolis has been carrying out cultural activities in Assú. And with the inauguration of the physical headquarters, the organization has intensified its contributions to the local community. “We promote Philosophy Week and Art Week, cultural lecture cycles and events in partnership with city institutions, enriching the cultural panorama and offering inspiration and guidance for everyone seeking wisdom and self-development”, explained Fernando.
At the end of his speech, Fernando expressed gratitude to the City Council and councilor Delkiza Cavalcante for the tribute. “May this tribute serve as a stimulus to continue our mission with renewed vigor and dedication, contributing to the human and cultural development of Assú”, he concluded.
