A blood donor day promoted by New Acropolis Uruguay Donors Club to commemorate World Blood Donor Day which takes place on 14 June every year and was instituted by the World Health Organization. Since 2004 the event has honoured the action of blood donors and emphasized the unique role they play in the health of their community by saving lives.

World Blood Donor Day is sponsored by several founding bodies that work together to promote voluntary blood donation:

• The World Health Organization (WHO)

• The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)

• The International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations
