Visit to the Bhau Daji Lad Museum, a look at its history and architecture (Mumbai, India)
To promote the appreciation of art and culture, the Art Department of the New Acropolis center in Mumbai organized a guided visit to the recently renovated Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum in Byculla, Mumbai. The visit included a guided session with the Director of the Museum Tasneem Zakaria Mehta.
The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum was reopened in 2007 after decades of dilapidation to win the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation.
The tour guided participants through a brief history of the Museum starting from its inception after the world-famous Exhibition at the Crystal Palace in London in 1851, to the loss of its significance and lack of care. The exhibitions show the influence of Victorian art in architecture and the rich cultural heritage of India. The tour ended with a short movie on the restoration process and a discussion on all the efforts that went into the revitalization of the Museum.
