Waterproof sleeping bags for the homeless (Johannesburg, South Africa)

Social Volunteering

In celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, volunteers came together in order to quickly and affordably create waterproof sleeping bags to be distributed to the homeless of Johannesburg.

Annually on Nelson Mandela Day, South Africans are encouraged to give one hour back to the community in volunteer service.

The sleeping bags are made from durable plastic sheeting, making them waterproof, and insulated with newspaper in order to protect against the cold at night. They are affordable to make, and incorporate the reuse of the discarded newspaper.
