Night walk along the Sierra de Palmela (Lisbon, Portugal)

Volunteering

Night walk through the Sierra de Palmela-Louro, near Lisbon, with the aim of observing fireflies in their nocturnal mating dance. This activity was led by Ana Nunes, volunteer of New Acropolis Lisbon.

In this plantation, pesticide treatments are systematically applied using high-pressure machines that release “poisons” into the air, spreading them over a large area in the vicinity. Therefore, during the outing, attention was drawn to the negative consequences that humans can have on the environment, and the importance of performing sustainable actions in harmony with nature.
