Caring for the health of our river (Sabadell, Spain)
For the second time in 2021, New Acropolis Sabadell has been able to clean the section of the Ripoll River in Sabadell that we have been assigned.
As always, we acted in coordination with the River Project of the non-profit association Hàbitat, which has been developing this great initiative since 1977, bringing people closer to rivers and streams.
This time, there were three important novelties: first, we were able to count on the help of three new people in the group, who joined this beautiful initiative spontaneously. Second, we found the river to be very dirty, presumably due to the pandemic and the fact that many more people have been out walking in the area in recent months. A lot of garbage was collected, as you can see in the photos. And third, several people who saw us in action when they were walking in the area showed interest in the activity and in participating voluntarily in the next call.
All in all, it turned out to be a very successful day for all of us, as we were able to help the environment with this project and with the joy of knowing that there will be more volunteers in future occasions.
This reminds us of an African proverb that says: “If you want to go fast go alone, but if you want to go far go with others”.
What do we do practically speaking? We evaluate water quality, set priorities for river pollution control, identify the most critical parts. and we influence land-use planning decisions, which is no small feat!
So we are looking forward to the next meeting, which will take place in 2022, and we invite you to participate.
As Alexander the Great said: remember that the fate of all depends on the conduct of each one.
