Online Talk: “Epictetus and his Manual for Living”(Balvanera, Argentina)

Cultural Activities

The Balvanera branch presented the lecture “Epictetus and his Manual for Living”, as part of the series “Great Figures of History”.

The speaker Eva Garda explained the basis of Stoic philosophy, commented on the life of this exemplary philosopher and highlighted his main moral teachings.

Epictetus taught that there are two kinds of things: those that depend on us and those that do not; and he urges us to take care only of the former.  He affirms that happiness can only be achieved by being free and to be free is to disregard what does not depend on us.

Today more than ever it is necessary to take up these teachings to become more self-aware, freer and happier.
