It was an honor to participate in the presentation of the recent work by José Carlos Fernández Romero, “Notes on Arthurian Symbolism.” The book covers in detail protagonists of different tales in the Arthurian saga: Sir Gawain, Yvain, Lancelot, Merlin, Perceval, Galahad, Guinevere and, of course, Arthur himself. They have left a profound mark on the popular imagination, as well as gave an impulse to reach the highest ideals through the development of courage, generosity, loyalty, and love. In a way, the Arthurian tales have inspired other stories such as “Don Quixote”, where, in the apparent guise of a parody, this aspiration to become a perfect knight is visible in the one who through his acts and his death defended those who could not fend for themselves.
