Inauguration of the First New Acropolis Book Hut in Verona (Italy)

Cultural Volunteering

After months of planning and a lot of effort, the first New Acropolis Book Hut in Verona is finally ready! With the beginning of summer, the inauguration of the new “Biblio-caseta” for the exchange of children’s books took place in the Park of Santa Teresa in Verona.

Despite the rain, many citizens attended the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, which took place in the presence of councillor Elisa La Paglia, of the Municipality of Verona, who thanked the volunteers for carrying out this unique work, recalling the importance of initiatives for children that stimulate reading. In the philosophical spirit that characterises New Acropolis, the volunteers of Verona wanted to create a place where people can sit, read and just be together.

The Book Hut, with its adjacent reading area, is always open and provides children and young people with books and educational games to use and exchange. This work was designed and donated to the city by the writer and New Acropolis volunteer Gianni Volpe.

The Book Hut was also the venue, throughout the summer of 2023, for workshops, readings and activities for children as part of the “Voices of the World” project.

A special thanks, for its invaluable contribution, to the Municipality of Verona, in particular to the Assessorato Politiche Educative e Scolastiche, Biblioteche, the President of the Fifth District, Raimondo Dilara, the Veronese high school students involved in the projects “Ci sto! A fare Borgo Roma” and the Fabbrica del Quartiere.
