Institutional Presence

Through the study of the History of Philosophy and the History of Art, medical residents of the Emergency Medicine specialty are expanding their vision of what it is to be human based on the humanistic training promoted by the New Acropolis Fortaleza (CE) school of philosophy, Meireles unit.

Through contact with the History of Philosophy, new residents have the opportunity to meet the great thinkers and philosophers throughout history, who left a legacy of great ideas for humanity, including the importance of ethics in human life . With regard to Art, the idea is to awaken the vision of beauty as a vehicle for the doctor’s sensitivity.

Students will take four classes per month for one year. Activities began in March with teachers Liliane Pereira and Ana Luiza. The initiative is a partnership with Instituto Emergência Brasil. Emergency doctor Frederico Arnaud, member of the Brazilian Association of Emergency Medicine, recognizes the importance of this type of training for the medical professional who is responsible for emergency care, a context that requires precise and quick decisions in the shortest possible time. “This can be decisive to save someone’s life, the first fifteen minutes are the most important”.
