Reading Club: “Rayuela” by Julio Cortázar (Guatemala, Guatemala)

Cultural Activities

This year we resumed our Reading Club, starting with with Rayuela by Julio Cortázar at the New Acropolis branch in the Historic Centre. Each month we meet to discuss what we have read and reflect on the characters and the story. In the first session we talked about the author, his historical context and how he and his work changed Latin American literature and became a world reference.

Once we got into the book, we enjoyed the challenges that Cortázar’s peculiar style of narration offers and analyzed how it connects with the story it tells. We discussed the many references the author gives, the characters and their motives, and analyze why the book is written in this way.
