Magic in Ancient Egypt (Paris, France)
New Acropolis hosted Fernando Schwarz – Egyptologist and philosopher, founder of New Acropolis in France and author of the book ‘Egypt: the magic of the heart’ – for a lecture on Egypt.
The Egyptians understood that, unlike the innate, what is acquired can very quickly be lost and, if not updated, lead to amnesia, ignorance and barbarism. Without the perpetuation of what has been learned, and thus of tradition and knowledge, the natural course of events always leads back to the primordial ‘Noun’, to chaos. If we let ourselves go, we are doomed to encounter nothingness. There is no point in trusting fate if we do not help it.
Thanks to the notion of heka, translated as ‘magic’, the Egyptians managed to mobilise all their resources to maintain order in the world and constantly repel the forces of chaos. Magic is a fact of Egyptian civilisation and characterises it. But it would be a mistake to associate it with witchcraft or the subjugation of others. The seat of magical practice is in the heart-consciousness, the centre of the finer perceptions. The quality of magical practice is closely linked to that of the heart.
