Towards Unity through Diversity: From darkness to light (Székesfehérvár, Hungary)
A comparative fairy tale workshop was held in the Székesfehérvár Centre. Three different folktales were narrated with similar motives: the abduction of the sun followed by the state of darkness, and then the return of light.
The participants were invited to explore together the meaning of different plots and trials in the rich symbolism of the magic tales. The dark forces obscuring the sun were symbolized by dark scarves, which disappeared one by one as ways to overcome the difficulties were found.
The virtues needed for victory were written on yellow ribbons by the participants and tied to a sun wheel. The programme ended with a handicraft workshop where the participants could draw and paint different symbols of the sun.
