Lecture-Concert: Chopin and Novales, in search of the sublime and mystery (Oeiras-Cascais, Portugal)

Cultural Activities

Within the cycle Music and Philosophy, New Acropolis in partnership with the Marquês de Pombal Foundation and the Câmara Municipal de Cascais, held this activity consisting of a lecture on the German philosopher Novalis and a concert with some compositions by Chopin.

The lecture was given by the poet, researcher and volunteer of New Acropolis Oeiras-Cascais, Severina Gonçalves, who expressed the worldview of Novalis, known as magical idealism and the mystical thought of this philosopher, who belonged to the group of the first German Romantics.

As for the concert, works representative of Chopin’s different facets were selected, from the influence of Italian bel canto in his famous Nocturnes, through the renewal of piano writing in his Etudes for Piano, to his intense national pride, as a Pole, demonstrated in his Mazurkas and Polacas, ending with the visionary avant-garde of his Sonatas.

The close relationship between music and philosophy was evident in this activity based on these two disciplines.
