Honouring Mother Earth: A Community Celebration in Compton Terrace Gardens (London, UK)
Last Saturday 25 April, we held a joyful celebration of International Mother Earth Day in Compton Terrace Gardens, Islington. The main intention was to transmit our love of Nature and pause to appreciate the beauty and wisdom that is hidden in it. These gardens are part of the monthly volunteering action we have been doing for many years, helping with the maintenance of this communal outdoor space.
Based on the theme of the celebration, we came together to offer a variety of activities to locals and passers-by including short tours about the trees, plants, animals and insects that share our space, and learn about their usefulness, symbolism and medicinal properties. Children engaged in some digging, scavenger hunting, planting, watering and crafts that allowed them to connect with nature.
In addition, homemade cakes, tea and coffee were offered and conversations around the topic kept the event lively and buzzing while enjoying the gift of a beautiful sunny day.
