“Projecte Rius”. Autumn inspection of the Vallvidrera stream (Barcelona, Spain)

Ecological Volunteering

During the day, three aspects of the water were assessed: hydromorphological quality (flow, habitat and riparian forest), physico-chemical quality (nitrate levels, dissolved oxygen, pH and temperature) and biological quality (observation of macroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality). The results revealed low oxygen levels and other conditions that are unfavourable for aquatic life, resulting in a low abundance and diversity of species.

In addition to taking measurements, the volunteers carried out a litter pick-up and reflected on the need to foster a new relationship with nature, based on respect and an awareness of the human impact on ecosystems.
