The results of the ‘Letters to Humanity’ competition were announced at the New Acropolis Philosophy School in Bilbao; this year’s theme was ‘Selfless Love’.

The judging panel consisted of:

Esmeralda Merino, a contributor to the magazine ‘Esfinge’ and a proofreader specialising in spelling and style.

Leticia Darriba, head of the “Giordano Bruno” library and the driving force behind this project.

Vicente Penalva, PhD in History, a philosopher by vocation and head of the “El libro durmiente” literary club.

Of the three prizes, two were awarded, whilst the first prize was left unclaimed due to a lack of literary quality.

The second prize went to the letter entitled “Selfless Love”, by the author Eloísa Osta Hermosilla.

Third prize went to the letter entitled “Mágica Cadena” by the author María del Carmen García.

A Special Mention was also awarded to a letter entitled “Te amo porque quiero”, written under the pseudonym Feliciano Amador.

Following the jury’s verdict, the participants and the audience had the opportunity to share their reflections and impressions on the content of the letters. It was possible to observe the different perspectives on the same topic and to learn something new from each of them.

Literature is a form of communication and also an art form, which expresses ideas in an aesthetic and beautiful way through words. But for this to happen, the writer must engage in reflection, reaching those elevated thoughts that allow them to connect with the intelligible world—the world of the Archetypes of which Plato speaks.

And what better archetype to reflect upon than LOVE!
