The “Arts Day” festival
The “Arts Day” festival is an annual celebration organized by the New Acropolis School of Philosophy.
The theme of our festival is the synthesis of the arts with elements of science and philosophy. Therefore, we invited our friends from the worlds of art and science to give the city’s residents a celebration of harmony and meaning. At the festival, the performers had the opportunity to tell us about themselves. Thanks to this, our visitors learned about interesting people in the city, enthusiasts of their craft.
Poetry
Our festival was opened by the art group “Ellada”. Poetess Natalia Rubinskaya recited her poems on Greek themes to the accompaniment of a classical guitar (Dmitry Chernov, laureate of international competitions). Olga Goncharuk, a lecturer at the Department of Foreign Languages at South Ural State University, also took part in the recitation.
Music
The “Classics Nearby” association: Yulia Kuznetsova (soprano, laureate of international competitions) and Vasilisa Zaplatina (piano, student of the “New Acropolis” philosophy school, laureate of international competitions) performed several classical pieces.
Painting and philosophy
Through the symbolism of Peter Paul Rubens’ painting “Perseus Frees Andromeda.” Under the guidance of Anna Shashina, a teacher at the New Acropolis philosophy school, the participants learned about the ancient Greek myth and its significance for modern man.
Ancient Greece
The topic of Ancient Greece was continued by Leonid Mebel, the head of “New Acropolis” in Chelyabinsk. He spoke about the volunteer project “Touching Beauty” for the blind and visually impaired. The project is planned to be implemented as an interactive exhibition titled “Ancient Greece: Gods, Heroes, People.”
Theatre and science
A lecture titled “The K.S. Stanislavsky System – Art and Science” delivered by theatre and film actress Ekaterina Kolmagorova. Also, together with her husband, Sergei Mikheev, Ekaterina spoke about the experience of creating the private theatre “AndersAn” in Chelyabinsk.
Science
Senior Lecturer at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Eurasia and the East, Chelyabinsk State University, Natalya Smirnova, delivered a lecture titled “The Line That Breathes: From Neuroscience to Zen — Calligraphy as the Art of Life.” Natalya is also the Director of the Eastern Center (ANO IKC “RAKUD”) and shared her experience as a student in the Eastern tradition of calligraphy.
The dance
The finale of the celebration was round dances. All the participants joined in the joyful movement, getting acquainted with the folk traditions of different countries.
This event fulfilled the first goal of the New Acropolis School of Philosophy – to unite all people, despite their differences. We thank all the participants! See you at future meetings!
