International Mother Earth Day (2nd edition) One Earth: Ancient Civilizations. The vision of China and Greece on Mother Earth (São Francisco Xavier, South Brazil)
The International Organisation New Acropolis Brazil promoted and disseminated online, through its YouTube channel, a dialogue between Roberto Pértile, a professor at the institution, and Yu Tao, a Chinese doctor, researcher and teacher. Around 380 people watched the broadcast live, which took place at the national headquarters of the organisation, located in the district of São Francisco Xavier, São José dos Campos, São Paulo.
Pértile opened his speech by welcoming and expressing his joy at celebrating International Mother Earth Day, following the United Nations movement around the world and celebrating the 22nd of April as a special date, which prompts us to reflect more on Mother Earth, our Mother Nature, the place where we live and, above all, on our role in this ever-changing world with its many challenges and how we can help to improve it.
During the conversation, myths were mentioned about the birth of the Universe and the Mother Earth, both in Greek and Chinese cultures. The origin of the word Universe was brought up; its etymology being “Uni”, which refers to Unity, and “Verse”, as that which revolves. Therefore, a Unity that expresses itself through movement, turning around in search of self-improvement, evolution.
According to Professor Yu Tao, the cycles of the planet, cycles of life or biological cycles must be respected, and this derives from the simple perception that nature offers us the day to be active and productive, and the night to rest, to recover our energies and to dream of the stars.
New Acropolis International participates in and supports activities aimed at achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) included in the UN 2030 Agenda, focusing on SDG 4 on Quality Education: To ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all and SDG 15 on Life on Earth: to protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems and forest management, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and prevent further biodiversity loss.
