The Philosophy behind Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” (Fortaleza, Brazil)
The Four Seasons group of violin concerti by the Italian composer and musician Antonio Lucio Vivaldi celebrated its third centenary this year. To commemorate this, New Acropolis Fortaleza organized a musical appreciation evening on the theme.
The compositions describe, in musical form, scenes from nature, harmonic expressions inspired by the four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The work was composed in 1723 and published in 1725, accompanied by four sonnets which illustrate the music – or the music illustrates the sonnets.
The event was guided by music teacher and pianist Vânia Marques. “We wanted to show how these changes in the cycles can help us to understand life better”, she explained.
