New Acropolis Brazil is promoting several events to commemorate the 2400th anniversary of the foundation of Plato’s Academy.

Lectures, reading groups on Platonic myths and debates on some fragments of his literary works, and book exchanges were some of the activities in which children had special participation.

The legacy of the Platonic Academy and its influence on modern thought, especially western civilization was discussed in the lectures. The reading groups shared the myths developed in his works through the literary interpretation which was followed by a debate with those attending and by a presentation of the Allegory of the Cave by the Shadows Theater Group. The objective of this initiative was to show how Platonic thought has inspired many historical currents and a number of innovative and creative initiatives.
