Mesopotamia exhibition (Budapest, Hungary)
A group visited the temporary exhibition Mesopotamia – Kingdom of Gods and Demons at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest. The exhibition is a true rarity in Hungary, as there are very few Mesopotamian remains preserved in the country. The exhibited artefacts, that borrowed from the European, mainly French and German museums, were introduced through a guided tour lead by György Rusznák.
At the entrance the visitors could marvel at the complete model of the Ishtar Gate of Babylon, and then observing different cylinder seals, they got acquainted with the pantheon of the Mesopotamian gods. One of the highlights of the exhibition area presented the way in which the Mesopotamian people interacted with the minor gods and the ritual prayers they used.
In addition to the ancient relics, a room was also dedicated to some of the Mesopotamian elements that have infiltrated the culture of recent decades (through films or comics), making possible the comparison the two worlds using videos. At the end of the visit, the participants shared their experiences and discussed the differences between the ancient and modern mentality.
